Minutes from the March '07 meeting at Guadalajara's in Ankeny.
I know, its late. My bad.
First off, the clubs thoughts and appreciation go out to all soldiers as our own club President John Kruzich leaves this Sat Apr 19 for Iraq, no send off party, save for when he's back in June this summer. I think I can speak for each member of the club and say we can't show enough appreciation for the soldiers stateside and abroad that support our freedom.
Meanwhile, club member Price Moberly continues to serve at Ft. McCoy WI training other soldiers in preparation to ship out, this after already numerous deployments.
Price is home some weekends and is available by email of course and on his cell phone daily. John said he should have access to his email after a few days over there. By the way, the email address listed for John in the directory handed out in March is not correct. The updated email for John
If I've missed anyone, my apologies. To our soldiers, thank you.
I know I didn't catch all of the things discussed at the meeting, forgive me if I miss some things. I'm just going to type things up as I caught them, if it seems unorganized, thats because so are our meetings! Not to overlook Kruzich's efforts of the March agenda- outlined on paper(!) Looks great, thanks John.
Drew Nowasell was "elected" Club Secretary and Steve Rowe stepped forward to be Club Treasurer.
(continued on Page 2) March meeting attendees: Gene & Kelly, John Kruzich, Derek & Amanda, new member Maury Shaul- great to have you Maury, Steve Rowe, Dave Funk, Irving Stone, Tom Domek, John Hanna, Price and Kay, Jeff Anderson, Andrew Nowasell and Bob Lawrence.
We've got new decals with the new club logo, sounds like Gene has them and Dave Funk has several too.
Steve Rowe was going to look into business card pricing.
Don Bellew has info on t-shirts, run of 12 per time (???) Derek is taking the lead on t-shirts and pricing.
Steve Rowe was looking into old bylaws, updating, and removing old content.
Hattiesburg Cycles (Mississippi) is a very large dealer and adding on... interesting dealership if you're ever down that way.
Member profiles?? This has been a topic of discussion lately, one thought was that they could be password protected. Perhaps the club could agree that each member could decide whether they wanted to be listed or at least to the extent..?? I'm sure there will be more debate in the future. Issue was tabled till next meeting.
The website's intent should be camaraderie, going places, etc... post everyone else's events...
Indianola Bike nights... 3rd Fri of every month... that means this Fri... if the weather is decent it is a nice gig. On the square in Indianola, you can't miss it. Music, lots of food and venders, I would say 70% a Harley event, but don't be intimidated, everyone is welcome. Very family friendly, the locals who don't even ride bring the kids down and enjoy it too. Even if you go by yourself, you'll probably run into someone you know and have a good time. Approx. 2000(?) bikes any given bike night. When you leave town, the cops are waiting for you on 65 N. Don't race the guy next to you over the hills.
Bagley (rally) is in May. You'll have to get ahold of Dave Funk or someone else for more info.
Trial of Tears rally is now defunct- Funk.
Sat Apr 26 Country Cycle Winterset open house- they have a new building, nice. Hwy 92 N side as you come in from the Interstate.
Sat May 3 Hornung Cycle Hwy 65 Hubbard IA Open House
Sun May 4 Nishna Enduro -see Dave Funk
Sun May 4 Polk City Ride-In 1-4
Sun May 18 Garvis Charity Ride
Sun Jun 29 Adams Cycles Ride
Watch out for potholes etc! Should you need it, there is a mobile wheel repair service that has been seen in the Des Moines area, the guy has a trailer set up, looks like he makes the rounds to car dealers etc. -Price Moberly
Polk City Ride in.. Funk has the mugs. Gene will handle newspaper adds. I don't recall if anyone volunteered to handle concessions, if someone wanted to, you can use my George Foreman Grill, crockpot, etc. Just a heads up, this is THE way to go for ease and cleanup. New Banner?? Tom Domek has the banner. "The banner WILL be at the ride-in, Tom and Dave are 'on it'!" Can't you just see Dave with this declaration from the far end of the table? Maybe its just me, but I still think our club slogan should be "Who's got the banner??" T-shirts, decals and all. In my time with the club, no topic has been afforded the amount of attention that "where's the banner?" does. Every meeting I wait for someone to suddenly interject with great concern "where's the banner?!?". Ahh, the old "banner" crisis; the reoccurring crisis, although since Domek has had the banner the subject seems to be slightly less frequent.
Hopefully it makes it to the Ride-in. I fit doesn't, no worries.
Polk City Ride-In Sunday May 4, 2008 1-4 pm, come as you are. For those of you that have never been, just come out to the square in Polk City for some motorcycle camaraderie. Sometimes there's hot dogs, cookies & hot cocoa, but never anything more. Hopefully it won't snow.
Art Baumgartner, club member, is in Forest City (?) doesn't ride anymore... maybe we could make a ride out of it some day and bring the club to him?..
Friend of the club Arlen Bloom was going to go down to Arkansas later this April to spend time riding with clubmember Rod Jacobson who moved from Johnston a couple years ago. I'm guessing they're heading to to the West Texas hills. Surely they will have a good time. Ride safe guys.
Clubmembers Dave Funk, Mike Schrek, John Hanna, and Drew Nowasell met up with Arlen Bloom on April 5th and then rode to Winterset, ate at a cafe downtown, stopped at the Suzuki Dealer there in town and KTM/Ducati dealer on the south side. It was windy but a good day of riding.
Anyone with anything to put into print email me at anowasell@iowatelecom.net.
That's it for my notes. Ride safe and be looking forward to good times at the Polk City Ride-In.
Cheers,
Drew |
